In 1975, Andreas began his apprenticeship at Europe’s biggest pianoforte manufacturer Wilhelm Schimmel in Braunschweig, Germany.
A comprehensive factory based apprenticeship program with regular modules of production line integration allowed him to gain his skills in all matters of piano manufacture, including 9 months at the School of Piano Building in Ludwigsburg, Germany. After acquiring his diploma he spent three more years at Schimmel furthering his skills in grand piano building. During his final year here, he was entrusted with the final tuning, regulation, and voicing of grand pianos.
Overseas travel led him to work with piano maker Wayne Stuart in Tasmania. This was followed by employment in various cities in Germany, where he gained experience in customer service, music conservatoire servicing, concert tunings, restoration work, and sound-board replacements.
He moved to New Zealand in 1988, and was employed with Atwaters Music Company in Auckland. Since 1989 Andreas has been self-employed based in Whanganui servicing a wide area, and looking after the Opera House Steinway for national and international artists.
He is married to Katharina, a Feldenkrais Practitioner.
An avid sky diver in his younger years he rarely takes to the skies now, but enjoys the earthly pleasures of life.
